An ethereal pavilion whose output is driven by cumulative data and social interactions collected in the Cloud. The genuine power of this living architecture resides in her ability to translate data into real-time, color and light responses that wake us up to the dynamics of world around us.

…constantly, perpetually receiving information then playfully transforming our activities into patterns of light and color that reflect our cumulative psyche. Ada empowers us to see and appreciate how information is being received and processed in our minds, beyond our immediate understanding. It bridges us into a potential future in which the spaces we inhabit respond in turn.

A whimsical exploration into two-way, human-to-horticulture conversation is setting the stage for new technologies capable of monitoring nature and alerting us – in the most human ways – of oncoming droughts, infestations and other threats to our food supply and environment.
To converse with Florence, simply type out a message on the keyboard connected to the computer that’s monitoring the plant’s ecosystem. The Florence system uses natural language processing to translate your message into colored light––or what we refer to as “plant-speak”. Florence responds back, based on the light spectrum your question activates and the sensors that monitor her current state.

Experiencing the ongoing changes in our environment in new, more informative ways
Poor air quality is an issue that most urban residents experience regularly. It’s largely invisible and current sensors capable of detecting it are prohibitively expensive, so its debilitating effects on populations and environments tend to go unnoticed.
With Project Eclipse, our Urban Innovation Initiative is presenting a suite of low-cost environmental sensors for cities. Our goal is a radical increase in the geographic granularity of environmental sensing, in support of a variety of public health scenarios.

The sensors are deployed to gather hyper-local information regarding air quality, temperature, humidity, and more.
They send immediate, real-time data to the Microsoft Cloud via a cellular network.


The collected data is instantly analyzed and broadcasted, warning an urban population of unsafe air conditions, no matter where they are.
Using the cumulative data, cloud-based AI can predict future conditions and help cities modify current practices and introduce more effective measures.
